Statement

Faces, houses, and objects are bearers of memory. When the sounds of distant days have long fallen silent, objects, paths, and faces place us before a mirror of the past that still endures. Many portraits, even without our knowing who they depict, transport us through their details to a region, a neighborhood, or a forgotten corner of the land. Marzieh Rahimi’s artworks traverse a layered world to pass from the present moment into distant times. To express this world, she has experimented with multiple techniques from printmaking to painting and photo-painting. In the coexistence of every surface from past and present, she encompasses sensations, memories, and symbols so deeply that each viewer can find a trace of their own journey among the elements of her works, in the gazes of her portraits, and within her houses.
