Statement

Among humanity’s great and influential inventions, paper is often less celebrated than the wheel or fire, which so profoundly changed the course of history. Yet much of what we call culture owes its existence to the invention of paper, far more than we usually realize. Centuries after the Chinese discovery, the Egyptian papyrus, and later the Iranian tradition of papermaking, paper grew into a vast industry that played a crucial role in the flourishing of the arts. Even today, centuries later, we still value this ancient invention and admire the way artists bring it to life with their pens and brushes. Now, in an age when environmental crises have become central to all our lives, painting on paper takes on an even deeper meaning, it reflects our most pressing questions and inner struggles.
