The Alleys
Group Exhibition
Aug 21 - Sep 11, 2026
A Group exhibition “The Alleys” will be held at Ba Gallery as part of the “Tehran Art Month” event, starting Friday, August 21. Artists: Maryam Salour, Afsaneh Modiramani, and Maryam Shakarchian. The exhibition will run until September 11, 2026.
The Exhibition statement says: The Alley is the mother and driving force of the city. Traditionally, alleys, with their familiar twists and turns, mud brick or brick walls, shade, and shelter, offered protection from the harsh desert winds and shaped everyday life around a human scale. The social connections that grew out of these alleys, the development of local economies, and the culture shaped by cafes, religious institutions, and other community spaces eventually became the city itself Today, even reflecting on the changing names of Alleys can tell the story of a city’s political and social evolution. Trees, doors, windows, and neighbors all belong to the alley, and these elements hold the memories of the city. The alley becomes a reflection of the city, which is why Iranian literature from the poetry of Ahmad Shamlou and Forough Farrokhzad to the enduring songs of musicians and lyricists such as Shahriyar Ghanbari has so often been intertwined with the idea of the alley. In this sense, the alley and the network of interconnected paths that run through it play an important role in shaping our identity. People become so deeply attached to the alleys where they live that they begin to see them as a kind of capital within the city itself. This sense of belonging is what we call a “neighborhood.” With this belief in the importance of the alley as a concept, the artists in this exhibition have chosen to focus on its details an approach that also responds to one of the central aims of the “Tehran Art Month” event.
Visitors interested in the exhibition can visit Ba Gallery every day from 3 PM to 8 PM, and on Fridays from 4 PM to 8 PM. Gallery is closed on Saturdays.
Ba Gallery Address: Unit 602 & 603, Modern Plaza Building, No. 1 Nastaran Alley, Baharan Street, Nakhl Street, West Artesh Boulevard.
