Timelessness of People and Flowers
Jul 2, 2025
A solo exhibition of works by Asghar Aharipour titled Timeless will open on Friday, July 4th, at Ba Gallery.
According to Honaronline, Aharipour was born in 1953 in Tabriz. He comes from a creative family and graduated in 1971 from the College of Fine Arts, then entered the Faculty of Fine Arts at the University of Tehran. The structure of his works is shaped by a surreal atmosphere with an emphasis on figure creation. The works in the Timeless collection exist somewhere between life and death, and each piece reflects the persistence of people through their surroundings.
In part of the exhibition statement, written by Seroj Barseqhian, it reads: “In the 1960s, a movement arose in theoretical and critical discussions of painting that brought two important terms to the forefront among other artistic concepts. These two terms were fueled by the cultural Cold War between the Eastern and Western blocs. The conflict between figurative painting and abstract painting resulted from this movement. This trend has continued into the postmodern era and remains influential to this day. Many contemporary painters are still influenced by this theory in various ways. Asghar Aharipour, in his artistic path and works, chose figurative art over abstract art. He belongs to the group of narrative and contemporary figurative artists in Iran. In the world of painting, there are two types of signatures: one well-known type is applied at the end of the work, indicating the time of completion. The second type, much more important, is the overall atmosphere of the work, the artist’s perspective, mood, and so on, which belong to the artist’s personal identity. Aharipour’s works encompass both types of signatures, and it might be said that the second type of signature is more prominent than the first in his works.”
