"Where Letters Become Dreams" Is a Visual Journey
Jul 31, 2025
According to Mehr News Agency, the solo exhibition of works by Somayeh Gholami, titled "Where Letters Become Dreams," will open on Friday, August 1st, at Ba Gallery.
Somayeh Gholami is an artist born in 1981 in Shiraz, Iran. She pursued her education in mathematics up to the doctoral level at the University of Coimbra in Portugal. So far, Gholami has held three solo exhibitions and participated in three group exhibitions both inside and outside of Iran. The works in her upcoming collection are influenced by the forms and shapes of letters in Iran and Portugal.
Exhibition Statement: "I was born and raised in Iran, surrounded by the delicacy of Persian calligraphy. Later, I found myself in Portugal, where the alphabet of my childhood was unfamiliar to most. This cultural shift inspired me to reimagine my artistic expression. In my recent collection, letters and words transform each piece into scenes and emotions open to visual interpretation. This series is not meant to be read or decoded. Rather, the works invite the viewer to experience calligraphy as form, motion, and texture. The familiar curves and flow of Persian script evolve into something universal—a visual language that transcends its origins while still honoring them."
Visitor Information: Art enthusiasts are invited to visit the exhibition “Where Letters Become Dreams” from August 1 to August 15, daily from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM, and on Fridays from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM, at Ba Gallery. Note: The gallery is closed on Saturdays.
