Somayeh Gholami’s Solo Exhibition "Where Letters Become Dreams" Opens in August
Jul 31, 2025
According to ILNA, a solo exhibition of works by Somayeh Gholami titled "Where Letters Become Dreams" will open on August 1st.
Somayeh Gholami was born in 1981 in Shiraz, Iran. She pursued her studies in mathematics up to the doctoral level at the University of Coimbra in Portugal. So far, Gholami has held three solo exhibitions and participated in three group shows both in Iran and abroad.
The works in this new collection are shaped by the influence of letters and their forms in both Iranian and Portuguese contexts.
The exhibition statement reads: “I was born and raised in Iran, surrounded by the elegance of Persian calligraphy. Later, I found myself in Portugal, where the alphabet I grew up with was unfamiliar to most people. This cultural shift motivated me to reimagine my artistic expression. In my recent collection, letters and words become scenes and emotions open to visual interpretation. This body of work is not meant to be read or deciphered. Rather, it invites the viewer to experience calligraphy as form, motion, and texture. The familiar curves and flow of Persian script transform into something universal—a visual language that transcends its roots while honoring them.”
Visitors are welcome to view "Where Letters Become Dreams" from August 1 to August 15, daily from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM, and on Fridays from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM, at Ba Gallery.
Note: The gallery is closed on Saturdays.
Gallery Address: Modern Plaza Building, 6th Floor, Units 602 & 603, No. 1, Nastaran Alley, Baharan St., Nakhl St., West Artesh Blvd., Tehran, Iran.
