Statement

The enduring patterns of human existence have long been shaped by a small number of fundamental forces: survival, power, and desire. Their traces can be found throughout history, reaching back even to the images and markings left on ancient walls. The impulse toward domination and superiority has, at times, driven human beings to acts of extraordinary violence and excess. It is as though humanity has repeatedly sought not only to overcome the other, but to consume them entirely to erase their presence and banish their shadow from the world. Human beings have often attempted to explain this cycle as an expression of their “animal nature,” shifting responsibility onto instincts supposedly shared with other living creatures. Yet the relentless pursuit of power and the rationalization of domination are not merely animal impulses. They belong to one of the most persistent and distinctly human behavioral archetypes. Through the entanglement and interweaving of bodies, “The Human Condition” reflects on this long historical struggle a condition in which human consciousness has so often been devoted to absorbing, suppressing, and ultimately erasing its own kind.
